Some history: during the 16th and 17th century the population on the coast of Quintana Roo including Playa del Carmen suffered numerous attacks from pirates who found refruge in the Carribbean islands.
Today the only attack in Quintanna Roo is from the sleazy time-share man who is more rampant in Cancun than in laid-back Playa del Carmen. Here in this laid-back paradise you'll find 'attacks' from girls offering braids (tranzes) all along 5th Avenue of today's Playa del Carmen.
Going south from Playa del Carmen is the Xcaret ecololgical park where amoung the numerous activities you can swim with dolphins (not cheap). Remember you can swim with Joel Gondelman for free.
South from Xcaret is Akumal.
Across from Playa del Carmen is Cozumel.
And the hotel has a swimming pool.
Under the 'Hotel' sign the rectangular sign reads 'Paraiso' at the top horizontal.
At the right vertical it says 'Casa de Gopola'.
A 'gopola' is a rare bird found only in the Yucatan coast. When it sees a vehicle driving into Playa del Carmen with passengers who didn't rent with MexicoSteve it dirties their windshield.
Then flies away.

Carmen. This is where you may hear all the local merchants greeting the visiting
girls braids amiga? Braids in Spanish is tranzas. Sometimes the Spanish
word is employed.
