Is Mexico safe
Jan 25 2010

Question: We were curious about all the violence we have been hearing about in Mexico and safety for tourists. We were planning to book an Isla Mujeres hotel for a trip this summer through you but have heard it might not be safe, especially on the drive from the airport to the ferry.
Our parents booked with you many times in the past.
Our reply: the press is exagerated. I live here. with my wife. so called violence in Mexico is mainly on the boarder with Texas and Arizona and even then less than the average american city.
nothing compares with the oaklahoma bomber or what you read in the national inquire about this crazy chicago man chopping up his neighbor with a cleaver and stuffing it in an abandoned fridge.
isla mujeres and cancun are heaven on earth and peaceful I say.
According to the FBI, Los Angeles California had 689 violet crimes in 2008. 10 being homocide.
According to leading sources: Cancun is amongst the safest places to travel in Mexico and is known throughout Mexico for its low crime rate. Other than the normal petty thievery frequent in all tourist destinations, major crime involving tourists in the tourists zones is almost non existent.
The homicide rate in Cancun is 4.7 per million in 2009. In 2008 Los Angeles had more than double the homocides of Cancun in 2009.
And Larry says: The per capita murder rate in Puerto Rico is 5 times that of the United States. I’m from the U.S.; I lived in Puerto Rico for 10 years until 2005.
Here in Cancun you can be on a lovely beach in a safe resort at just 45usd per person per night beachfront all-inclusive. Try that in LA. Or anywhere else. vist this Cancun beachfront hotel now

And did you know in 1916, 198 homicides were recorded in Chicago. At the time Chicago's population was that of Cancun's today in 2010. But Chicago's homocide rate was 47 times that of present-day Cancun's nearly a hundred year's ago.

In El Salvador there were 580 homocides per million back in 2006.
So if someone tells you Cancun isn't safe ask them where is? The south pole?
If you're thinking of Iceland, baby, think again. Back in 2008 this frozen country to the north had 14,726 crimes. And its' population is less than 1/3 of a million.

An issue effecting us all
Aug 11 2008

At this time the USA is importing near 70% of its' oil consumption.
It just can't afford to keep doing that. Can you count? That's trillions of dollars over the coming years.
It may seem this does not relate to Mexico but remember burning carbon based fuels like oil adds to global warming effecting all of us regardless if you live in Teaneck New Jersey or here in Mexico.
Alternative energy is the ticket to be sure!
We provide this link for your consideration and to pressure your politicians.
Pickens Plan. The use of wind power as renewal energy as presented in this plan is interesting albeit, it must be said:
Who will provide all the rights to millions of acres for the wind farms to be constructed. And there's still the problem of wind which is not reliable. It doesn't always blow as some months are not windy.
As my main man said the answer my friend is blowing in the wind

It is a matter of public record that Michael E. International investigations are also underway at this time.

Puerto Cancun project: from III Foro Nacional de Turismo Cancun
January 15, 2005

At the III Foro Nacional de Turismo, Rafael Lang director general of the Puerto Cancun Project indicated the basic infrastructure (roads; water; electric; drainage) for that part of the project corresponding to the hotel zone of Puerto Cancun should be completed in June of this year (2005).
Puerto Cancun in its entirety when complete will have living areas; a hotel zone; marinas; golf course; commerical areas for shopping.
This project will have a strong social impact generating more than 10,000 jobs directly and 25,000 indirectly.
It is hoped the 18 hole golf course will be completed in 2006.
The golf course will be of professional category of 75 hectares bordering on the ocean.
The marina will have a capacity for more than 330 vessels.
Rafael Lang indicated it will take 10 years to complete all the buildings in Puerto Cancun.

III Foro Nacional de Turismo Cancun excerpts
Jan 24, 2005

Quintana Roo is a model of what turism can do for a state. After the Mexican revolution the Mayans lived almost as slaves working on the haciendas. Today there are more oportunities of employment for everyone in areas directly or indirectly related to turism.

Tourism is the third most important industry in Mexico.

The friendliness of the Mexican people encourage tourism.

After just 34 years of existance Cancun has a population in size of Merida, a city of hundreds of years in age.

Some of the lobster caught in the waters of Isla Mujeres is exported to the USA.

Quintana Roo now has the highest level of immigration in Mexico.

Cruise ships contribute little to the city hosting them, rather they take advantage of existing infrastructures and natural surroundings.
